The UK is to get a centralised national database for horses this summer. Defra is to announce the launch of a Central Equine Database and biometric equine passport system this summer. Information of every passported horse will be transferred by the issuing society to a central register, therefore allowing all horses to be recorded and therefore not have multiple passports! There is hope that it will also include microchip information, so an unknown horse could be tracked quickly and reliably.
This is a great relief, as currently there are over 70 different societies where it is possible to register a horse, so knowing their paperwork history is fairly tricky!!
